Start Here: Understanding Your Baby’s Head Shape
Noticing a flat spot, a preferred head position, or a consistent tilt can feel overwhelming. You do not need to diagnose it yourself. Start with simple observation, document what you see, and bring concerns to your child’s healthcare provider.
1. Look from above
Check whether the forehead, ears, and back of the head look balanced or whether one side appears flatter.
2. Watch movement
Notice whether your baby comfortably turns both directions or consistently looks one way.
3. Check for tilt
A persistent ear-to-shoulder tilt or feeding preference may deserve evaluation.
4. Support development
Continue safe sleep on the back. Use supervised awake tummy time, varied carrying positions, and age-appropriate floor play.
5. Ask early
Contact your pediatrician or qualified clinician if asymmetry is worsening, neck motion seems limited, your baby strongly favors one side, or you are concerned.
